Taman Nasional Kutai (Kutai National Park) In Sengata

Kutai National Park has a variety of vegetation types, namely primary coastal forest vegetation / mangroves, freshwater swamp forest, Heath forest, lowland inundation forests, forest ulin / meranti / lime and mixed dipterocarp forest. This national park is representative of the most widely ironwood forest in Indonesia.

Some plants that exist in national parks such as mangroves (Rhizophora sp.), Tancang (Bruguiera sp.), Sea pine (Casuarina equisetifolia), Simpur (Dillenia sp.), Meranti (Shorea sp.), Benuang (Octomeles sumatrana), lime (Dryobalanops sp.), ironwood (Eusideroxylon zwageri), 3 types raflesia and various types of orchids.

Ironwood trees contained in Sangkimah has bole height 45 m, diameter trunk circumference of 225 cm or 706 cm and a volume of 150 m3. This tree is listed as the tallest and largest trees in Indonesia.


Besides having the potential diversity of plants, the park also has the potential for a high diversity of wildlife, from the group of primates such as orangutans (Pongo Satyrus), Borneo gibbon (Hylobates muelleri), proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis fascicularis), monkey (M. nemestrina nemestrina), and sloth (Nyticebus coucang borneanus). This group can be found in the Gulf of Kaba, Prevab-Mentoko and Sangkimah. Groups of ungulates such as bison (Bos javanicus lowi), sambar deer (Cervus unicolor brookei), deer (Muntiacus muntjak pleiharicus), and deer (Tragulus klossi javanicus). This group can be found throughout the Kutai National Park. Groups of carnivores such as bears (Helarctos malayanus euryspilus) stork barrels (Leptoptilos javanicus), white belly sea eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster), pergam king / green (Ducula aenea), partridges (Gallus sp.), Parrots / tiong gold (Gracula religiosa), and pecuk snake asia (Anhinga melanogaster melanogaster).

This national park is the location of the third national park as the orangutan rehabilitation center located in the Gulf of Kaba.

Kutai National Park has formed a partnership with several companies such as PT. Kaltim Prima Coal, PT. Pupuk Kaltim, PT. Rhinos LNG and Pertamina (Mitra Kutai). Mitra Kutai provide funding and implementation of the conservation of the national park.

Some locations / attractions to be visited:
Kaba bay and estuary Sangkimah. Marine tourism and wildlife observation such as orangutans, proboscis monkeys, sambar deer, mouse deer, sun bears and birds.
Lombok bay and river estuary Sangata. Marine tourism and observations mangrove forests are still intact.
Prevab Mentoko. Research and observation of animals such as sun bears, orangutans, deer, sambar deer, and wild boar. And here to me is the best places to find easy about orang utans wild.
Goa hole wind. Cave tour

How to reach:
How to reach: Balikpapan - Samarinda about 2.5 hours by four-wheel road vehicles, then proceed to the Bontang about three hours. Bontang Kaba-bay by speed boat about 30 minutes. In addition there are between Bontang-Sanggata highway divides the park.
